Jojoba (Simmondsia chinensis) is an extract that comes from the seed of the Jojoba bush. It is often referred to as an oil which is incorrect as it is more of a liquid wax. The liquid wax esters contained in Jojoba are much like our skin’s sebum which make it a natural choice forskin care.

Why Jojoba is great for skin care

Due to Jojoba’s unique characteristics, it is one of the most beneficial additions to your skin and hair care routines. It returns your youthful glow, balances oil production, eliminates shine and restores hair. Jojoba contains amino acids and proteins similar to collagen, which is known to support youthful, beautiful skin and hair.

Face & body care with jojoba oil

One of the advantages of Jojoba is its versatility. It is non-comedogenic, has gentle antibacterial and soothing properties that help to calm and balance the skin. Jojoba can be used as a moisturizer, a make-up remover, to condition and protect skin, to balance acne prone skin, to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and to nourish hair, lips, and cuticles.

Jojoba is often blended with other nutrient-rich oils when used for facial care. There is a synergistic effect of combining oils that can enhance the effectiveness of the individual components. Jojoba blends well with sweet almond, rosehip seed, argan, calendula oils among others.

A simple base recipe would be equal parts of Jojoba and Argan oil. Both are appropriate and beneficial for all skin types. You can then add additional oils based on your specific skin type issues being addressed, i.e.
Rosehip seed is wonderful for its regenerative properties – good for mature, dry or normal skin.
Borage is beneficial for acne prone skin as it is high in oleic acids.
Evening primrose supports most skin types including mature, acne prone and normal or combination skin.
