There can be many reasons why you are experiencing acne break outs. Hormonal imbalances, stress, poor diet, digestion or general health and overuse of harsh products that disrupt the natural balance of your skin. For most of us there are some basic guidelines we can follow to help support a healthy, glowing, clear complexion.
At the surface of our skin, acne is caused by excess sebum that prevents dead skin cells from shedding. Instead they bind together and clog pores which encourages bacterial growth and resulting pimples.
Traditional treatments use harsh, drying chemical products but this approach often stimulates more sebum production and causes further breakouts. Your body is always seeking to be in balance; when we dry out our skin our body responds with more sebum production as it wants you to have beautifully moisturized skin!
In the Ayurvedic tradition, acne is seen as a build up of toxicity in the body mostly related to poor digestion and unhealthy lifestyle.
Some Ayurvedic practitioners state the following reasons for acne:
Ayurveda is an ancient herbal medical system from India. An Ayurvedic practitioner can support you with herbs and lifestyle changes to bring your doshas back into balance and promote overall health and well-being.
At Neeta Naturals we have incorporated Ayurvedic principles and traditional ingredients to develop a line of products that are natural, gentle and effective to support your skin returning to balance.
Ayurvedic acne prevention ingredients in Neeta Naturals Products
Neem: Neem is included in Neeta Natural skin care products as it has many benefits including potent anti-bacterial properties that help to reduce current acne and prevent future outbreaks.
Rhassoul Clay: Rich in magnesium, silica, potassium and calcium, Rhassoul clay will draw out impurities and balance oil production without the drying effects experienced with synthetic ingredients; leaving skin feeling soft and nourished.
Along with other ingredients such as:
Lavender Essential Oil: Gentle, balancing and antimicrobial
Carrier Oils like Jojoba, Camelina, Rosehip seed and Tamanu to nourish, condition and balance. Carrier oils like Tamanu also have their own antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties to combat microbes and support skin health.
Sandalwood Powder and many others.
Acne Clearing Protocol:
Facewash: It is important to keep your face clean but to only use very gentle cleansing agents. I recommend washing with rice water twice a day. Rice water is easy to make, simply soak ½ cup of uncooked rice in 2-3 cups filtered water. Leave overnight. In the morning strain and use the water for your facial wash. Place extra rice water in a glass jar and store in the fridge. Only make enough to last a few days as it will spoil. You can also use Neeta Naturals soap, Neem Soap original, Neem Soap with Mango Butter or Canna Beauty Bar. All Neeta Naturals soaps are deeply cleaning, nourishing and gentle enough for everyday use.
Face Mask: Use Neeta Naturals Neem Glow face mask as a full-face mask treatment twice a week. Neem Glow can also be used as a daily spot treatment for blemishes. Mix a small amount with water and apply directly to blemishes. Let dry then rinse with warm water or rice water.
Face Toner: We recommend Holy Basil toner for acne prone skin. Holy Basil also known as Tulsi has natural antibacterial, astringent and anti-inflammatory properties it is perfect to calm, soothe, support and balance your skin.
Moisturizer: Although it may seem counter intuitive to use oil on acne prone skin, the correct combination of oils actually help to balance the skin sebum production and leave your skin soft, supple, moisturized and protected. Neeta Naturals Kama Face Oil or Neem Kiss mixed with Light Luminance Facial Oil will provide a nourishing result-oriented treatment for you.
Daily- wash you face with Neeta Naturals Soap then mist your skin with Holy Basil toner followed by application of facial oil. Pump a few drops of facial oil into your palm. With another hand put your finger into facial oil and start applying those fingers as dots to your forehead chicks under yes and chin area. Gently massage in circular motion. The oils will quickly absorb into the skin without leaving any greasy residue. Your face will feel dewy soft.
Face mask- Apply mask twice a week.
Scoop about a teaspoon of product and place a small bowl. Add enough water to form a soft paste. Spread moist facial mask over skin – avoiding delicate area around eyes. Sit back and relax for 10-15 minutes.
To remove mask: Remove mask before it fully dries and “crackling” takes place. Moisten a washcloth with warm water, hold moistened cloth over face for 30 seconds, then gently wipe clean using circular motions. Rinse face with lukewarm water and pat dry.
Optional For Dry Skin: Add a small amount of carrier oil or lotion to your mask to enhance moisturizing properties
For spot application: Blend a small amount of the mask powder with water to make it a soft, almost runny, paste. With your finger, put the mixture on the blemish you would like to clear. Leave on for 10 minutes. You can apply before bed to a clean face and rinse off in the morning.
DISCLAIMER: The activated charcoal in Neem Glow is a fine black powder that tends to stick and stain cloth. We recommend having a few designated washcloths and hand towels to use when removing your mask to avoid staining regular linens. Rinse thoroughly then launder with dark colors only. Make sure to wipe down your sink after use to remove any residue.
Activated charcoal is carbon that has been treated with oxygen. The resulting fine black powder containing millions of tiny pores that effectively draw out impurities… although it can stain material it is so effective for cleaning the skin and helping to give you a radiantly clean, healthy complexion that we can’t imagine not using it!
